This is an exciting opportunity for you to develop your own career and profile by supporting the work of WMG and its partners in the area of design, development, and intelligent use of sensing systems for embodied and Physical AI including autonomous transport, robotics, Agritech, health technology (including wearables, prosthetics), medical technology, amongst others.
The successful candidate will support the development of a nationally and internationally recognised research programme spanning sensor design (including transducer physics), multimodal perception, sensor fusion, and AI-driven interpretation of real-world environments.
In this newly established academic role within the Safe Autonomy Research Group, you will lead research, teaching and administration in addition to providing innovative solutions to complex industrial problems by creating a bridge between WMG and interested parties.

About You
You will hold a PhD and have already demonstrated both excellence and independence in research along with an ability to contribute to effective teaching. You will have a track record of internationally recognised publications in sensor design, including optical, event-based, radar, LiDAR, acoustic, tactile, force, inertial, thermal, chemical, biosensing, and multimodal sensor systems, and have expertise in one of more application areas such as computer vision, sensor fusion, calibration, and uncertainty-aware inference, for scene understanding, object detection, tracking, localization, mapping, and reconstruction.
We are seeking candidates who can make a strong contribution to both our research and our teaching, and who will make the most of the opportunities provided by our lively and vibrant departmental culture.
We will be appointing at either Assistant or Associate Professor level depending on applicant experience.
