About the Role
We are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to join a new project on “The role of gene copy number variation in host-microbe interactions”, supported by a BBRSC/NSF research grant. This collaboration with the Reitzel Lab at UNC Charlotte will address how immune gene copy number variation alters host responses to immune stimuli, shapes the microbiome, and governs host-pathogen interactions.
In this role, you will be expected to bring neuroscience expertise to contribute to the wider project. You will integrate multiple distinct approaches to gain new insights into anthozoan immune genes.
About You
We are looking for a neuroscientist with demonstrated expertise in investigating anthozoan immune genes. This should be supported by hands-on experience using genetically encoded biosensors. Experience with Nematostella vectensis would be a major advantage.
You are a creative and independent researcher with strong problem-solving skills, able to work both as part of a collaborative team and on your own initiative.
If you have not yet been awarded your PhD but are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant at the top of level 5 within the University grade structure. Upon successful award of your PhD and evidence of this fact, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of the level 6 of the University grade structure, unless exceptional experience applies to warrant a higher salary.
