About the Role

This role is our lead in-house investigator for student cases involving allegations of sexual misconduct at the University of Warwick. 

 

The role of Assistant Registrar – Conduct and Resolution works within the Conduct and Resolution Team and acts as an Investigating Officer for a variety of student misconduct cases arising from complaints made by a wide range of external and internal stakeholders. Working alongside other investigators, both internal and external to the University, this post will take the lead on complaints and investigations relating to matters of sexual misconduct. Working closely with a wide range of stakeholders from across the institution, the postholder will act as a key point of contact on a range of Student Conduct issues, managing cases and investigations within agreed timescales and in accordance with the University’s Regulations and processes as well as the requirements of the Office for Students and external best practice from bodies such as Universities UK and the Office of the Independent Adjudicator.

About You

To succeed in this role, the postholder will need to have experience of conducting investigations into complex and sensitive matters, including sexual misconduct, with a proven ability to gather and weigh evidence and interact with reporting and responding parties, witnesses and their supporters in a trauma informed and professional manner. The postholder will manage multiple competing priorities, including multiple concurrent cases that cover a wide range of issues and that are often complex in nature. A flexible approach is required in order to meet the changing needs of the service, as well as a proactive approach to problem solving with due consideration of potential risks and adverse consequences. Good written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail are essential, as the postholder will be required to explain/present complex information in an accessible and user-friendly way. The postholder need to be able to demonstrate that they can conduct interviews with reporting parties, respondents and witnesses with tact and diplomacy.

 

Due to the nature of the role the postholder will be required to demonstrate that they can manage highly sensitive and confidential information with tact and discretion.

About the Department

The Conduct and Resolution Team is responsible for delivery of processes relating to non-academic student misconduct disclosures and reports. The team administers the University’s conduct and resolution policies and processes, from disclosure to formal complaint, investigation to Misconduct Panel/Mitigation Hearings and covers a wide variety of casework including sexual misconduct, bullying and harassment, discrimination and hate crime. Alongside the Investigations team, Conduct and Resolution includes a Committee team managing process, hearings and appeals, the Report and Support team, who manage disclosures, training and support student through our processes, the We Act programme which supports students to challenge harmful behaviours through the development of knowledge, skills, and confidence, and the Mediation Service, which helps staff and students to resolve conflict and repair relationships.

The Conduct and Resolution team works closely with the University Complaints team, Wellbeing and Safeguarding, Residential Community and Community Safety teams, Legal and Compliance Services as well as other stakeholders across the institution.

 

The Conduct and Resolution team works to uphold the University’s expected behaviours and values. The postholder is required to conduct non-judgmental, transparent, consistent and fair evidence-based investigations and reach conclusions and make decisions which are clear and justifiable.
